Bump

Two Fridays ago, on Feb 24, I noticed that the roof of my mouth right next to my front teeth felt funny. I thought I had burned it. I had had pizza for dinner the night before. The soreness sort of localized into a bump behind my left front tooth. Since I’ve had a couple of times before something got stuck between my tooth and gum, I tried the thing that worked in those instances: I tried to get the gum to bleed. I scrubbed it with my tooth brush. I scratched it with my fingernail. But nothing worked.

After waiting 10 days to see if it would go away on its own, I went to the dentist. He scraped that pointy tool between my tooth and gum and said he was able to get something out. Then he used his ultrasonic cleaner tool to ream out the area. Ouch! But it finally bled. He gave me a prescription for amoxicillin and told me to swish with warm salt water. I started my regimen last night. I still have a bump this morning, but I’m hopeful it will be going away soon. It hurts when I eat.

I decided against trying to take a picture of the roof of my mouth. You're welcome.

Urrrrgglllleee…. sooooo many things about this story make me woozy. Scratch it to make it bleed? Pointy tools? Horse pills?

Thank you for not taking a picture. I would have had to call in woozy to work.

    Thank you indeed. (*jibblie*)

“It hurts when I eat” sounds like a great new diet plan. Not that you need one.

So what was the bump, and how can it get itself lodged so tightly???

My question exactly – and did the dentist put it into a little specimen cup for you to keep, in which case why was there no photo of it posted here? And how can you avoid succumbing to RBD (Repetitive Bump Disease) now that you seem predisposed to it? Is there a vaccine? Is it covered by our insurance?! Inquiring minds need to know!!

The bump is not the thing. I suspect the thing is something small. The bump is the irritated flesh around the thing. Eating has made it worse today. I almost want to get my own pointy dental tool and start scraping at the gum. I think there’s something still there. And I hope it’s not spider eggs. (see below)

You don’t suppose a spider crawled in your mouth while you were snoring & made a nest there do you?

No matter, I guess the amoxicillin will kill any spider eggs.

      Or make them stronger.

    Here’s an interesting side-effect:
The bump is irritated today, and I can’t stop messing with it. The resulting pain travels through my skull into my nose and makes me sneeze. I’ve been sneezing from my left nostril all day long. Fascinating…

Never a dull moment with you and your ailments!
