Organ Lessons

For a long time now, I have wanted to take organ lessons. It’s even on my LIST. I took lessons in college, but my keyboard skills weren’t good enough. I couldn’t think about my hands and feet at the same time. Now that I have passable keyboard skills, I haven’t been able to find anyone to give me lessons. Until now. We had a substitute organist for Easter, and we kind of know each other through church connections, so I asked her if she knew anyone who gave lessons. She found someone!

Across the street from my church and down a block, there is a big Presbyterian church where the organist is taking organ students. Woo hoo! Yesterday was our first meeting and my first lesson. I was able to locate my old organ shoes, and they still fit. (Good thing you don’t need special pants to play organ, because I do not wear the same size pants as I did in college.)

I felt very nervous playing. It was like being in school again. But the teacher guy is really nice, and he knows what he’s doing, so I relaxed as we went along. Playing the organ is so different from playing the piano. It’s going to take a while to get used to the different touch. And I have to get permission to practice on an organ. My church organist is pretty protective of our organ, so I wasn’t up for the challenge of asking last night. I thought maybe I’ll call him some time today.

I’m scheduled for weekly lessons for all of May. I hope I can keep up with this. I am going to cross it off my list, but I hope it becomes an on-going thing.

The sanctuary is the part of the building with the pillars.

Hmmm…. So far I’ve erased three snarky comments that complain about your becoming yet more talented, but I’ve decided to take the high road and see if a colon and a P will make a tongue-sticking-out face. 😛

I am truly very proud of you. You had a goal and you’re actually working toward it! I have no idea what that’s like.

“PRETTY protective”!?!?! You now have a new title – king of the understatement…..

Yet, maybe, perhaps, if he hears you are taking lessons, and knows and approves of the teacher, and has you demonstrate your new-found skill on, say, a cardboard organ somewhere first, and then you raise your right hand and swear to leave not so much as a finger print on “his” precious……………………………naaahhhhhh………….I doubt any of that will matter.

But we’re all still impressed and proud, for what that may be worth.

      …. a cardboard organ…..HAHA!!!

And way to knock that list down Brad!! You may just have to start adding more things to it. I don’t have a real list. I’ve thought about making an official one, but I wouldn’t be able to barrel thru it like you & that would be upsetting. Plus, it’d be a list of ‘things to do’….and I like ‘being done’ so it would be anxiety producing also. Unless maybe I back track:

      1. Learn to crawl
      2. Learn to color in the lines
      3. Learn to eat without getting it all over yourself
      5. Learn your address
      6. Make fudge from scratch

PS–Where’s the picture of the organ shoes?

    (Oh & I’ve milked a cow :-p )

Ha! I should have taken a picture of the shoes. They are CRAZY pointy. They look hilarious!
