Root Beer Float

Happy Birthday to my nephew Tim! Yay!

I went along on a trip to Walmart yesterday. As I was going through the checkout, I noticed a new gum flavor. It’s been a long time since I tried a new gum. Almost a year in fact. It seems like I’m always finding new gum and mint flavors when I come to Seward. This is the same brand as last time – Extra Dessert Delights gum.

This new flavor was Root Beer Float. It was pretty good. I could definitely taste the root beer part. The ice cream part was not as clear, but it was kind of a creamy root beer taste. As with any of the gums I try, the flavor didn’t last very long. Do gum manufacturers do that on purpose? If they made a gum that lasted for a long time, people would buy less gum?

Anyway, I like this new flavor. I would buy it again. But my favorite Extra Dessert Delights is still mint chocolate chip ice cream.

I was chewing it before I even got to the car.

I should just bite the gum bullet and try some, but I am opposed to a fake food tasting like a real food. Fruity gum and candy are acceptable because I grew up with them, but otherwise it makes me feel like I’m in some science experiment. jibblie

I tried it, and it was quite chewable. The taste was mostly gone after about a minute, but it had an enjoyable almost taste for quite some time.

Birthday blessings to young master Tim, the strong silent one (as I recall from a few weeks back…), and many more (…blessings AND birthdays!)

While on long car trips (I believe the nearly 3K miles put on the Subaru these past weeks counts here), I prefer gums with the hard shells because, when left in the car, they don’t get overly sticky and contact things they should not and make a holy mess everywhere. God bless Eclipse brand for this reason. Long live their breath-freshening, saliva-producing flavors! (That doesn’t look as appetizing in print as it sounded in my head. Sorry.)

I just realized I’m a gum snob. I like traditional gum flavors…like Fruity Stripes or Bazooka. Maybe you could have Lauren experiment with gum making. She wouldn’t have to chew it….just give it to you all. Surprisingly, there’s quite a few recipes out there.
