I experimented with a recipe yesterday. File that under things I never expected to do.
I’ve made lemon pudding twice in the last two weeks. I brought it as dessert to a couple of dinners I was invited to. It’s really a very delightful recipe, and it is my favorite dessert in the whole world. It was very well received by my dinner companions – except Brady’s daughter Miriam, who said: “this lemon curd burns my mouth”. Hehe…
Anyway, I’ve been very curious about the possibility of using something other than lemons, so yesterday I tried oranges. The original recipe calls for the grated rind and juice of two lemons. I used one orange. And since orange juice is sweeter than lemon juice, I cut the amount of added sugar in half.
The result looked very much like the original. I expected it to be a brighter orange than it was. It had a pleasant flavor, but it did not knock my socks off. In fact, the recipe made four servings, and I probably won’t eat more than the one I sampled. I still want to try other citrus. I still have grapefruit and lime to try. Could I do non-citrus fruits as well? Hmmm…
Wow! I am so impressed with you! Of your next batches, I think I’d like the lime. That tartness is just awesome. Dang it, now I want lemon-lime-orange-grapefruit pudding.
Ooooohhhh! Try blood orange and see if it turns really red!!
Nice going!! I’m not much of an experimenter either….maybe I should change that.
And how do you feel about beans for your next try? Like maybe cocoa beans.
I read, “It’s really a very delightful recipe…” in my Julia Child voice.
So what, then, becomes of the other three servings? ;-/
“Oh, Maaaa-aaaaax! Here boy!!”
Heh. It’s funny you should mention that. This morning there were lick marks in the tops of the remaining servings. If they were lemon pudding, I would have still eaten them. These orange ones? I just scraped them into the trash. Tomorrow is trash pick up day.
