One block away from my house is a little market called The Green Onion. It’s like an old-fashioned general store. They have grocery basics like baking powder and flour, but they also have local products, like honey, homemade soap, and fresh produce. They have fresh dairy, meats, and cheeses as well. It’s fun just to look around, but I’ve discovered something I really like to buy there: sausage. Each time I go, they have different kinds available. The first time I went, they had Italian sausage and sour cherry sausage. Now cherry sausage might not sound very good, but let me tell you, it was delicious! When I went yesterday, they had apricot sausage. Also delicious! A few minutes on the grill to cook it through and get some smoky burnt parts, and I was eating a most tasty meal. I had sausage with a side of buttered toast. Mmmm….
I didn’t have any green. Somebody I worked with used to ask me that at lunch all the time. Was that Debbie? She would say: “Where’s your green?” Hehe…
I also like that they wrap the meat up in butcher paper. It’s not often I’ve seen it used for an actual butcher application. At school, we always drew on it.
There was a time when meat and fruit was disgusting to me, but now I’m on board. Sour cherry actually sounds pretty delicious! I’m with Debbie on the green, though – you need some vegetable matter in that meal, unless you’re counting apricot specks.
Sometime, would you sneak a picture of the inside of the store? I’d love to see it!
I should have taken a picture while I was there. There’s a picture as part of this article:

*sigh* I love it.
Did the sausage taste like sour cherry & apricot? I mean if you didn’t know it’s name, would you say, “Hmmm….this sausage tastes like cherry…..sour cherry.” Interesting. I’m not sure if that sounds appealing or not.
You’ll have to keep us posted on the other flavors you try.
It wasn’t sweet; it was savory. It was something like having pork chops with applesauce or turkey with cranberry or IKEA meatballs with lingonberries. It still tasted like sausage, but had added flavor.
Oh and I had green with my dinner last night. I had Oreo cookies, Pringles & pickes.
Bring sausage to Nebraska?
Can I bring it in a carry-on? Is sausage considered to be a liquid?
[Pretty soon you’ll be hosting Sausage Thursday Northeast, it sounds!]
Let’s hear it for cut up and seasoned pig body parts crammed into cleaned out instestinal linings! 🙂
–butcher’s daughter…sorry…can’t help m’self…
You really should have had some GREEN veggies with your sausage! Fresh GREEN beans or tasty Brussels Sprouts would have been good. You need your vitamins and minerals!
Ha! Hi Debbie!
