Prime Time

One of the rooms at my church is getting a face-lift. It used to be the library for the school, but has now become a meeting room. It is getting some cosmetic changes to make it a nicer place to meet. A while back, I offered to help paint. Yesterday the room was ready for me.

The ceiling got some new drywall on it, so that was the first thing that needed painting. Since it was new drywall, it was decided that primer was in order. I am not someone who normally uses primer, so I had a hard time. Primer does not cover like paint does. It leaves a horrible, splotchy mess. I kept thinking I was doing a bad job painting. And of course painting a ceiling is always hard. After a while, you are sore in places you never even knew of.

I only got half of the ceiling done. I’m going back this morning to finish the rest. I don’t know if I will immediately continue with paint, or if I’ll need to wait. Other people are working on building a “beam” down the center of the room that will house wiring for lights. They might have to finish before I paint.

Today should go more quickly because I don't have to do any cutting in.

You shouldn’t have posted this, Brad. This job is too similar to the sorely needed redux on our kitchen ceiling that’s been waiting 1 .5 years already for us to have enough energy or time to tackle it. (Hard enough the first time; when the ceiling bows again due to more leaks from the old A/C part formerly in the attic…it’s just not a motivator.)

    While you’re still around…uh…I was wondering….um….

Oh, and nice job on that room at church.

That darn thirsty drywall and it’s uneven-soaking-in-of-paint. *fist shake*Did you use a pole for the roller or just by hand? I do not envy you that job. The walls, yes. The ceiling, no.

The window sills seem extremely deep. Did they drywall over old brick walls?

I used a pole roller. I did try standing on the scaffold, but using the roller without a pole limited my reach too much.

The sills are deep, but that’s because the walls are made of cement and stone and are really thick. There is no drywall on the walls.

I’m with Lauren, painting ceilings are the worst! How very nice of you to do it!

You should write your name & the date in the beam area.
