Sausage for Eight

I hosted my Dinners for Eight group last night. When you’re the host, you supply the main dish. I decided to go with sausages. There’s a small market called Green Onion a block away from my house that has all kinds of local foods, including meat. They make homemade sausage. They have different kinds almost every day. It’s SO good! I went on Thursday and then again yesterday so I could get a variety. I took pictures to help me remember the names.

Here are Thursday’s:
It is not made with Jagermiester.

I like saying the word 'paprika'. Paprika. Paprika.

I didn’t have to write down yesterday’s variety. It was sour cherry. I’ve had it before. Mmmm….

So here’s a quick description of each:
Jagerwurst: This literally means “hunter sausage”. It is a basic sausage that hunters took with them. It’s made with garlic and pepper. It was deliciously simple.
Italian Fennel Paprika: Lots of spicy flavor. Very tasty.
Sour Cherry: Delightful pieces of fruit to contrast with the smoky meat.

I haven’t cooked so much meat on one grill at the same time. The grease caught on fire and the sausages got a little burnt. They were good anyway. And all my guests handled it graciously. Thanks, guests.

I think everything cooked on the grill should be a little burnt…I like that taste!

And so you really liked that fennel sausage? Fennel is that licorice tasting vegtable.

Mmmmm… the hunter’s sausage sounds delicious. The sour cherry, too. I don’t know how I’d feel about the Italian. Fennel is like licorice, right?

We’ve been eating a lot of summer sausage for dinner lately. It’s a meat that’s already prepared, so if I throw together some other items (cut-up apples, bread and cheese, maybe some terrible homemade soup), it’s a whole meal. God bless sausage.
