Sprinkle Criticality

I went to the mall yesterday. I like the mall because I can walk around (which I really like to do) and I can people-watch (which I also really like to do). Because I’ve been trying to save money, I have gotten good at window shopping in the last few months. I can’t remember the last time I made an impulse buy. But I did spend a little money on a snack. I stopped at a frozen yogurt place. It’s one of those places where you make your own sundae, and you get charged by the ounce. You have to be really careful at those places. It’s easy to spend eight or nine dollars. Sheesh!

This was my third time at this place. I’ve been running an experiment. My usual frozen yogurt sundae is vanilla yogurt with rainbow sprinkles. I have wondered how many sprinkles are too many. I started with a normal amount on my first visit. The second visit, I upped the amount. Yesterday, I used three full scoops (the toppings have little scoops in them). It wasn’t enough to turn me off of the taste. In fact, I think I’d like more. But my stomach felt kind of weird after I ate it. Was it just a coincidence, or did the sprinkles cause my discomfort?

I think I’ll need to do further experimentation…

The bowl was HUGE! I should have put my hand next to it to show how big it was.

*Gasp!* That, too, is my strongest impulse craving. Strawberry yogurt with strawberries on top is nearly irresistible. There was another place that had cheesecake yogurt – top that with strawberries and graham cracker crumbs and that is heaven.

Here, I think I know why you love sprinkles so much: they are basically sugar. šŸ™‚

Hmmm… I would have guessed that sprinkles have wax in them.

Apparently they do. Grate up a candle in the icing and you’re good to go.

I didn’t know sprinkles had any flavor. I really thought they were just for decoration.

But NOW, after reading your link Lauren, I think I may have to try this. I’ll need a pastry bag though. Lauren, this looks like something you’d love too….what with all the chopping going on.

I would love it! chop chop chop

And no pastry bag needed – use a ziplock with a teeny tiny corner cut out. Actually, I remember some post where someone wanted to make GIANT sprinkles, so they used a pastry bag with a large tip.

I wonder if there is any topping that is cheaper to get there than in a store. Even if it’s not cheaper, it would be fun to bring a cup of sprinkles to the counter.

By the way, I had to look up ‘criticality’ because I though you made it up. In fact, spell check is giving me the business right now.

Did everyone think of Louis Slotin when they read the title of this post?

    Or is it just me?

    • Lauren

      Well, obviously not me. šŸ™‚

I was proud of this title because in the context of this post, both definitions of “criticality” could be applied.
