Distraction Dinner

I’ve lived in Baltimore for a long time. Moving to Maui is a big deal, even though it may just be temporary. I’m having intermittent jolts of anxiety now, so doing normal things is good. I distracted myself with Xbox yesterday, and with some gardening. I tried to get the garden sort of ready for spring.

In the evening I went to Brady and Lark’s house for a dinner party. Tony, who I backpacked with, was also there, as were his wife Jill and their kids. It was a lovely dinner, with conversation and laughter and good food. I was glad to just have some normalcy – it was the perfect distraction.

Next to their dinner table, Brady and Lark have some closet doors that hold all the Christmas cards they’ve received this year. One card that came was from a family they didn’t think they know. We had a great time creating a back story to their lives. The note included in the picture the family sent was very short, so we didn’t have much to go on, but by the time we were done, we felt like we knew them. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Nestlers!

They seem like a really nice family.

Ah, yes, the Nestlers – the heirs of the Nestle’ family fortune, though they added the ‘r’ to their name so as not to seem too presumptuous when taking their dogs to obedience school. Good people. Shame about their pig.

That’s hysterical! How could a family with Lark and Brady’s unique last name get on someone’s Christmas card list unless they did know them?! Guess the Gurganii will have to add the Nestlers to their list now. [Or, if they’re like us, omit them from the non-existant list…] Wonder what exotic details they could include, ragardless of their veracity? This reminds me of…

Yea for distractions….feel free to come over and distract yourself in our east side lack-of-a-garden over the next few days; a mystery planting might be nice, you know?

That’s hilarious! And it’s so funny they put the card up on their closet. Ha!

Maybe the Nestlers send cards out to all sorts of random people because they like to nestle with everyone at this time of year. Or maybe they’re spies and now you all are in danger.
