Shoal of Time

On the advice of my friend Marie who has been living in Hawaii for the past 12 years or so, I have read about Hawaiian history. And it wasn’t just me looking it up on Wikipedia. I got an actual book written by an actual history professor. I was a little slow to read this, but I’ve been dealing with a pretty serious Xbox addiction, so I think I’ve done pretty good. The book is called “Shoal of Time”. It was wonderful to read – very good narrative… like someone was telling me the story of Hawaii’s history. It starts with the arrival of the first European explorers (led by James Cook), and ends with Hawaii’s statehood.

I’m so glad I read this book. I feel like I know so much more about Hawaii now. And I’m excited to see the places I read about. I give this book a strong Bradaptation recommendation for all you people who like history and for anyone curious about Hawaii. But you can’t borrow my copy just yet. My mom already claimed first borrow. It’s going in the mail today.

The light in my bathroom is good for picture-taking purposes.

So, the illustration on the front of that book reminds me of how my ocean phobia began. See how that land just keeps going under the water? Yep, it keeps doing that.

Maybe I’ll ask your mom to borrow that book when she’s done. History facts usually pour right through me like water through a sieve, but your recommendation is intriguing.

Also, ‘Shoal of Time’ would be an excellent soap opera title.

Ha! That would make an excellent soap opera title…or even a drama. And I bet we could do some nice writing for it too. Do you know any Hollywood people we could pitch the idea to?

And I too will have to check out this book….what with your recommendation. I wonder if there’s such a book about Bora Bora???

That was a very smart thing to do – yea for Marie! (Did you read up on Bawlmer before comin’ here, though, Hon? You seemed to fit right in nevertheless. Not to worry…)
