Fitness Fest

Yesterday was an annual event at school called Fitness Fest. It’s a day of track and field competition. We went to a stadium that is in walking distance of school. The events involved Kindergarten through 8th grade. Times and distances were recorded for sixth through eighth, and there were ribbons given out at the end of the day. It was a beautiful day. I handed my camera over to my sixth graders. They got some pretty good pictures.

The 100 meter hurdles:
The kids did a pretty good job of jumping over them without knocking them down.

The long jump:
The farthest jumper was one of the smallest girls in the class.

The shuttle run (grabbing bean bags from the ground and running them to the other side):
One student didn't have an opponent, so I ran against him.

The day ended with a series of tug-of-war contests. Everyone was very excited!
Sixth vs. Fifth

It was a really fun day. The sun and excitement really tired me out though. Whew! Meanwhile in Baltimore, there was an early dismissal yesterday because of snow. I can hardly remember that it’s January. I was wearing sunscreen and sweating yesterday.

    Run, Mr. Royuk, RUN!!

That looks so fun!! I love that last picture with the volcano/mountain in the background – it’s just beautiful. And it’s cool that the grades all have the same color. Way to encourage teamwork!

After the Fitness Fest, do you have a Fitness Feast?

    (Sunscreen and sweating…huh!)

AH! So they have Field Day in Hawaii, too! You can run, but you cannot hide…
How cool that you got to use a stadium for these events. 🙂

Only one problem…your comment: “It was a beautiful day.” Uh….aren’t they all where you are now? [I mean, we finally broke freezing here for the first time in about a week just fifteen minutes ago.] Blue skies, sunshine, all the stuff you need to keep your spirits up and “Run, Royuk, Run!!”

But I am a tad confused – no mud pit between the two tug-o-war teams? What, then would the real fun be there??
