Super Bowl

I went to a Super Bowl party yesterday. My co-worker Penny had me and a few others over. The food was delicious. Before we ate, there was a bunch of spicy stuff set out that people ate with chopsticks. The soybeans are edamame, which is something I’ve had before. At one o’clock in the picture below is raw ahi tuna marinated in what tasted like kimchi sauce. It is called poke (PO-kay). It was good. At four o’clock in the picture is Tako (TAH-ko). It is a kimchi flavored dish as well, but it’s made with cooked octopus. It’s a little chewy, but very interesting.
The poke was my favorite.

After that, we had many kinds of grilled meats. They were all delicious. I was stuffed!
All different kinds of marinades.

Right before the game, the women all left and went to a movie. I watched the game with the guys. They were cheering for the 49ers, which would have been awkward, but I’m not a huge sports-watching fan, so I was not heavily invested in the game. I am glad the Ravens won, though 🙂

The commercials were pretty good. I think I liked the Oreo one the best. The Doritos ones were also funny.

From where I sat, I could look out into their back yard. They had birdseed out. I miss watching birds eat the seeds out my kitchen window in Baltimore. I had fun watching these birds, even though I had no idea what they were. There are a couple of varieties of finches. And every once in a while, some big birds would come out. My host called them Franklins.
The Franklin is just to the left of the bird feeder.

I didn’t see the Oreo commercial, but at least the wonderful internet will have that available today for lazy folks like me.

That food looks incredible! How fortunate that you have already been an adventurous eater, so much of this was already familiar (and tasty) to you. I remember long ago when I found out that tuna were actually great big fish. How was I to know? It came in a can, after all.

That’s right…when in doubt, “finch” works quite nicely. Now, regarding the Franklins…check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHa58lXMjeI

    Woo hoo!!

But that was the most stressful game ever! The high: Jakoby Jones. Shortly after that, I had to leave the room.

    I love the Franklins!

PS What’s in that edamame? They aren’t just salted.

The edamame also had kimchi spices on them. I didn’t like it as much as just plain salted.
