One of the school parents conducted a CPR class for some of us teachers last night after school. I was worried I would fall asleep or be grumpy, but he was AWESOME. I loved his presentation style. And the information he shared was very useful. I almost didn’t want it to end.
Besides presenting the information in an appealing manner, he also shared some personal stories from his time as an emergency responder in Maui. One big takeaway from his first-aid talk: if you’re stung by something on the land, use ice. If you’re stung by something in the ocean, use heat. He said: “Ice if by land, heat if by sea.” Ha! He said peeing on someone when they’re stung doesn’t really help.
We learned CPR and how to use an AED, and we practiced both on manikins. I’m feeling good about my ability to respond to an emergency. Hopefully I won’t have to use that ability…
How cool! That’s neat that it was a parent doing your training. I see you have the baby mannikins. Did you get to practice thumping a baby? (That’s always my least favorite part. – Whack*whack*whack*/flip and check the airway/Whack*whack*whack*)
Good thing he said that about the unnecessary peeing. In my book, it is used way too often in way too many circumstances. No wait…. that’s just at my work.
This must be National Emergency Preparedness Week, as our morning faculty meeting today included adjustments to our crisis management plan in case of a need for lockdown due to unwelcome visitors bearing arms. Your session sounded much more fun and much less disconcerting. (Just heard this morning that the knock-out panels beneath our windows? Probably wouldn’t knock out in an emergency. Nice…)

Hehe….the article I read was funny. My favorite part was: You can’t kill these by stepping on them or running over them with your car. Local Hawaiians say the only way to do the job is to cut them up with a knife or a shovel. Ha! No problem for a shovel master like you!

Fortunately, part of living in an apartment complex is regular visits from a pest control company. All I’ve seen in my apartment is geckos.
