Beltway Blunder

Yesterday I left school earlier than usual. As I drove up to the beltway entrance ramp, there was a long backup. I waited for a while, then realized the ramp was closed. Oh well, I would go around the south part of the beltway and catch I-95. As I traveled south, I noticed that ALL the ramps onto the north-traveling part of the beltway were closed. My usual radio station for traffic reports had some kind of local sporting event on, so I couldn’t get any information.

All the alternate routes were jammed up. As I ground to a halt behind a long, long line of cars, I got out my phone. The internet told me there was a presidential motorcade traveling the beltway, so the entire western half of the beltway was closed. On Friday. At rush hour.

I don’t know who made that decision, but I do not hesitate strongly to disagree with it.

It took me an hour and ten minutes to get home.

“I don’t know who made that decision…” Well, we can pretty much rule out the President himself, not known for making great decisions of any kind these days. (rimshot)

Sorry, sir. Between the Star-Spangled Celebration Preparations and having a Big Wig in town, it must have been miserable traveling. Good thing you at least “left school earlier than usual”, eh? Time to take up needlework and keep a bag of supplies in your car so you’ll have something to do the next time this happens. (If it makes you feel any better, the football team from school had a game in northern Philly yesterday – you read that right – and would be coming back down I-95 during afternoon rush hour. Wonder if they’re even back yet?)

Holy. Cow. How did you not burst a blood vessel? I am sorry for the traffic delay – I bet that put a damper on the ‘coming home early!’ feeling. 🙁
