Predictions

Yesterday was a day off of school. The weather prediction was for an inch or two of snow. I didn’t see that in my part of town at all. There was a light dusting, but nothing near the prediction.

I feel sorry for the people who have to decide about school being open. The news stations do their best to scare everyone about the snow that’s coming. When the prediction doesn’t come true, no big deal. The school people, on the other hand, have a lot more pressure. If they do call school off, and there’s no snow, they’re silly. If they don’t call school off, and there IS snow, they are putting families and children in danger. Sheesh!

The prediction for overnight snow is two to four inches. As of last night, it was still only a dusting:

And this morning, it looks like there is even less snow. That’s the opposite of more snow!

There must be some snow that fell in other neighborhoods though, because we have a two hour delay this morning.

You are quite the objective and kind person, with your sympathy for the school closers and all, as you hit the nail on the head. Danged if ya’ do; darned if ya’ don’t. Always going to frustrate one element of the constituency, that’s pretty much guaranteed.

Hope you enjoyed your day off as much as I. However, I am tiring of adjusting lesson plans to suit shortened teaching periods, so we can be done with this winter thing any day now, Lord, thank you.

CNN.com had an article about that – the 5 reasons schools hate to close. It pretty much said what you guys said: It’s a pain trying to figure out what the actual conditions are/ nobody’s happy / it’s costly for many reasons / some kids go hungry if they don’t eat at school/ it makes teaching harder because you have to catch up. I think those were the reasons.

    Stay safe, guys.

Yes, I blame the stupid media. They get us all hepped up & then nothing. I like snow! With the strong predictions we had, I was really hoping for a day off or at least a late start. What do I get:

Now you are in a realm with which I dealt for about 40 years! Thanks for the sympathy! I DID NOT LIKE BEING FORCED TO DO WHAT THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS DECIDED!! But for several years, that was the deal. Egg on face….yes. All that was said was quite true. Thanks to all respondents. Ultimately, God decides! Complaining helps nothing. Grin enjoy and bear with the decisions made. Check my back sometime…..it’s pretty thick. God’s blessings to all of you who are laboring still in the real world. I like retirement!
