Astronomic Time Switch

Yesterday after school, I was hanging out with some of the kids who were late in getting picked up, and I noticed a small panel in the wall. Being the curious sort, I opened the panel to see what was behind it.

So cool!

So cool!

It was an awesome dial of some kind. The faded label says it’s an “Astronomic Time Switch”. Even cooler! Do you suppose it’s a time machine? Is the hallway we were in a time machine? Is the whole school building?

What could it be?

What could it be?

I didn’t fiddle with the dial because there were children present. I didn’t want to accidentally cause them to age forty years, or to accidentally send them to 1937. I will definitely have to examine this dial more closely. If some day I suddenly disappear, you know what happened. Watch for my mark on history. I’ll send a message by changing something noticeable. I have an idea: I’ll convince the founding fathers to make the eagle our national bird instead of the turkey.

HA! I see what you did at the end there…

I’ve seen these before; they are ancient, are they not? Something in your building is on a timer that is supposed to keep up with the seasons, I believe. Do let us know when you discover what it is..if you’re still in this century when you make the discovery, of course.

We have several of these in our church that operate lights on our sign, parking lot lights, etc. They have to be reset when the clocks fall back or spring forward. My husband is usually the one who does it. He showed me how change them once thinking someone else should know … just in case! (FYI – “just in case” almost happened a year ago today when he had is stroke! Praise God for his miraculous healing!)

Yes, I remember one of these at one of the churches I worked at … a timer for outside lights or something like that … but you had to reset it when DayLight Savings began or ended. It’s been a while back, but I seem to remember them being kinda tricky to work.

I like the idea of its being a time travel apparatus better, though. A WABAC machine … you’re a little tall to be Sherman, though … and Gus isn’t exactly Mr. Peabody … but hey …. it’s worth a spin!
