Inspiring Music

On Fridays, I always have my Literature classes write. Yesterday, I decided to use music as a prompt. I had them listen to some music that was written for the opening scene of a movie, then I had them write an opening scene that went with it. I haven’t read them yet, so I don’t know how they did. If the past is any indication, they’ll be varied and interesting.

The instructions.

The instructions.

HERE is the music. Ha! Not really. Yesterday was his birthday though. He’s 48. I played this for my homeroom in the morning. They loved it.

HERE is the real music. And HERE is the opening scene that uses it. I love “The Goonies”! I need to watch it again. Just watching the opening scene gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

I’ve never watched the Goonies, but now I just might do that. (I was too tired when I first read your post and kept thinking ‘Gremlins’, so I was initially confused by the scene.

I think that was a great idea!

I’m surprised you haven’t seen it. It was a very formative movie for me. I feel like I lived their adventures personally.

Someone just told me that they had just showed The Goonies To their kids. I can’t for the life of me remember who that was. Also, too many “Just”s.

If I could justify it, I’d show the movie to my Literature classes. None of them had seen it. How fun that I would get to be there when they saw it!

I LOVE Goonies! And I’ve watched it with TnT several times, they love it too… The language is surprisingly bad in the movie, which completely shocked me when I watched it again with my kids. It didn’t distract from the epic greatness of the movie though. Still LOVE it! 🙂

Somebody who posts here on occasion (ahem) has a middle school enrichment class this semester on use of mass media for entertainment and communication. Working in groups the students are writing scripts in their chosen genre’ (e.g., comedy, suspense…). This sort of prompt would make an awesome drill one day this week – at your convenience, send me your lesson planning consultant bill.
