CPR

We did CPR and first aid certification yesterday. The last time I did this was in Maui. It is always interesting to see how things change in two years. Compressions-to-breaths always seems to be different. Yesterday, the word was 30 compressions, 2 breaths. We also practiced AED procedures and reviewed first aid stuff.

During the first aid part, I had a flashback to college health class, where we were passing around pictures of various wounds and I was getting light-headed. This time, I decided not to look at the pictures as they came up on the screen. It was successful. I did not pass out.

It was hard to get the breathing mask on the baby.

Today is the first day with kids! Woo hoo! It’s a half day for the middle schoolers. I’m so excited! I had trouble sleeping last night. I hope it doesn’t make me too sleepy today.

Yeah, those pictures are not the greatest. This past time I went to a class, they showed some video that made me decidedly uncomfortable. They should make special notations on our cards: “Not going to do well with all of this”.

    Happy first day!

No CPR for me this year – I got 2-year coverage last August. Woo hoo! Now, please, Lord, don’t ever put me in a situation where I’ll need to use this. Thank you.

More and more teachers note trouble sleeping the night before First Day with Kiddos. Wonder if knowing that would make the students feel better somehow? “We’re nervous, too, you guys!” [Maybe their parents would wonder if their children should be left with sleep-deprived adults all day, though.]

Me? I find myself nodding off immediately, then awakening way earlier than the alarm and trying in vain to regain unconsciousness. Might be time to buy a bottle of melatonin…
