Family Time

The funeral yesterday was really nice. I’m so glad I was there. My Aunt Gloria was a special lady who touched a lot of lives.

I really liked the flower arrangements. So many of them featured blue flowers. I’m guessing that was her favorite color. I was most excited to see sea holly flowers in one of the arrangements. I love sea holly.

It's the spiky one.

After the funeral was the internment. It was at another church. There are several family members buried there. My parents have plots purchased there, and have already placed their tombstone. A lot of family members have done that. Is that usual, or is that a regional thing? Do people buy their plots and tombstone before they need them? Instead of a regular marker, it’s a bench. My dad sat on it yesterday.

Im not sure who that guy is. I was trying to sneak the picture, but my dad saw me and smiled.

After the internment, we went back to the first church for a potluck, complete with many fruit salads made with marshmallows and Cool Whip. Then it was off to Cousin Mike’s house for more socializing. I didn’t have much time there before I had to get to the airport.

I’m back in Baltimore again. My flights were all uneventful. My layover was in Newark, New Jersey. I’ve never been to that airport. It was really interesting. The shops were really different that other airports I’ve been to. The junk food was completely different. It was really fascinating.

I am glad your travel was uneventful. Nobody needs more drama after a funeral!

It’s good that your family got to be together. I don’t know the answer to the burial question. That came up when we were at Lloyd’s grandma’s funeral. She and her husband bought plots long, long ago when the cemetery was new and they were having a sale. A sale. On burial plots. That is odd to me.

My aunt had purchase both years before she died also. I thought it was odd that everything was at the Cemetary, all ready to go but then again, where else would you store a tombstone? (She also lived in Nebraska.)

I accidently went to a bible study this past summer where they were giving information on death and funerals. I felt like a dork at first, but then I learned quite a bit. The reason you get a plot and headstone and plan your funeral is to make it easier for your loved ones when you die. Then they don’t have to run around figuring out all those details; they can just focus on grieving in a healthy way.

    P.S. I love Tim’s jacket.
