Substitute Ingredient

For my lunch, I’ve been on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich streak for several weeks now. I like how easy it is to shop for ingredients – one visit to the grocery store lasts for two weeks.

In the past, I’ve alternated between grape and strawberry jelly, but recently I’ve been using only strawberry. And actually, I use jam, because I find it’s easier to spread. This past week, due to bad planning, I ran out of strawberry jam before I ran out of days of the week. Fortunately, I still had some raspberry jam left from when I made a birthday treat for my coworker. Unfortunately, I don’t really like raspberry jam on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Fortunately, I am out of raspberry jam and out of bread, so it’s time for another trip to the grocery store.

I ran out of sandwich bags, so I've been using plastic wrap.

Don’t you just hate when you run out of before you run out of week? I particularly hate when that valuable item is disposable income, but I can see where the proper “fixins” for a PBJ could put one into crisis mode, too. Hoping a grocery run soon puts lunches back into balance for you, sir.

OK, that was supposed to say: “Don’t you just hate it when you run out of [insert valuable item here] before you run out of week?” Since I used the dreaded “less than/greater than” signs to frame the insert – it disappeared. Live and learn.

Huh, raspberry jam is my favorite pairing with peanut butter. I love all those little crunchy seeds! I am sorry that you had to suffer through it, though.

You are right about spreading jelly. It is a pain in the butt.

Wow….you put a lot of peanut butter & jelly on your bread. I only use grape jam. Mmmmm…..nothing like a good PB&J on fresh bread!
