One Hundred Thousand Miles

My truck turned over to 100,000 miles yesterday. When I left my house in the morning, I saw that the change was only a few miles away. I told myself to remember to watch it turn over, then I promptly forgot what myself said.

In the afternoon when I was going home from school, I stopped at Home Depot to get some alliums and mulch. When I got back in my truck, I saw that it was already way past the zero mark. I took a picture for posterity anyway.

Missed it by that much.

Missed it by that much.

And, as I’ve done in the past, I took a picture through the front windshield to show where I was at the time.

I was parked by the garden center entrance.

I was parked by the garden center entrance.

It seems like one hundred thousand miles isn’t as big of a deal as it used to be. I remember cars reaching this point on the odometer, and they were falling apart. My truck has no problems with the engine at all. I’ve replaced breaks and tires and such, and my radio antenna got ripped off by a car wash, but other than that, it’s really running well. What’s the new “one hundred thousand miles”? Is it two? Or is my truck an exception to the rule, and it will start falling apart any day now?

Happy milestone, Brad’s truck! I have no idea about the number of miles vs. condition of vehicle, but I’m sure Lloyd will have something to say about it.

I think that as often as you go to Home Depot, they should start giving you some kind of discount. Right?

The Civic ran well up to 290,000 miles with only scheduled maintenance, then we had to have a fair amount of work done. Then we sold it, and I understand that it has now quit running at 315,000.

How many years have you had the truck?

It’s a 2006, so about ten years. I have intended to drive it until it doesn’t work any more. Of course, once a car starts breaking down on you a lot, that can change your outlook…

My car recently turned to 173,000…..Still runs good and gets me where I want to go. I think twice when repairs have to be made, but my wise son tells me that a small repair bill once in a while is better than a car payment of the same amount each month!! It’s a 2003 Taurus…..It was used and I got it a month after Uncle Lyle passed away. <3 Aunt Bev 🙂

The ’08 Forester hit 102k over the summer – according to Consumer Reports if I treat it right I can expect 250K out of it. So I guess 250K is the new 100K?

…and hearty congratulations on this milestone!!
