A Three Trip Job

It was a beautiful day yesterday – a perfect day for working on the porch. So I decided to… replace my kitchen faucet.

I love my sink, but the hole for the faucet is set back pretty far. I’ve had two faucets in it already, but recently saw a faucet in IKEA that looked like it would extend farther over the sink.

I had a dickens of a time getting the old faucet detached from the sink. It had a 1.5 inch nut over a big threaded tube, and all of it was up underneath the sink in a tiny space that I couldn’t get a wrench into. I went to the home improvement store three times to get different kinds of special wrenches. In the end, none of the special wrenches worked. Instead, I had Denis turn the faucet while I held the nut with a regular old wrench.

The rust and mineral deposits sure didn't help get the nut loose.

I’m glad the new faucet is in place. It looks nice, it works really well, and it’s much cleaner than the old one. As an added plus, the nut holding it onto the sink is small and easily removed.

And now, the before and after:

I like the new faucet and the things you have on the window sill. “A dickens of a time” — Ha!

I love that little framed cross-stitch thing. My co-worker Lynne gave us all personalized ones for Christmas a while back. The frames were all different. Mine has a cat and a vine on it – perfect! And I love the simple reminder every time I stand at my sink.

It’s funny to think that maybe she was just making a small token to give each of us, but that small thing has become such a favorite possession of mine.

(You know she and Steve are traveling in Australia/New Zealand now but I bet she’d really appreciate it if you told her that some day. I keep mine on my desk for those days when it seems I can’t make anybody happy – I know at least somebody loves me.)

Gorgeous! That faucet looks just right for your house. 🙂

I agree with all of the above. Also, your new faucet reminds me of the pump for the well at my grandpa’s house.

First off, I always smile when I read what/how you write. If you wrote books some day, I’d read ’em cover-to-cover.

Secondly, that faucet is AWEsome! I simply love the extra room one gets beneath that fixture for placing large pots, etc, and how far out into the bowl of the sink it goes. Did you notice if they come in chrome? (Don’t I sound like I’m brave enough to do my own plumbing work? HA!)

You Are Soooo “Handy”…..Uncle Lyle Couldn’t/Didn’t Do Any “Fix-It” Jobs…..His “Fix-It” Was To Call Someone Else!!! (or have me call!) 🙂
