Conference

Yesterday instead of school, I went to the Baltimore area Lutheran teacher conference. It was at a school just north of Baltimore in Kingsville. I almost didn’t go because I’ve been feeling sick, but I’m glad I went. It’s always great to spend time with other Lutheran teachers. It’s a big morale boost.

The keynote speaker was the LCMS Coordinator of Online Support and Services. He talked about technology, but it wasn’t the usual “Hey, use Smartboards” presentation. Instead, he talked about what futurists were saying about the world that today’s kindergarteners will be living in when they graduate from high school. He then talked about how we might prepare them for that. He also did a good question and answer section where we talked about real issues like the tension between virtual and real-world experiences and skills.

He had a dynamic speaking style.

He had a dynamic speaking style.

I also have three more interesting things to report:

One: I had my first pumpkin pie of the season during lunch.

Two: I went to the bathroom to get some toilet paper to blow my nose, and discovered that their toilet paper was hung in the “under” position, just like my school.

Three: On one of the school’s walls, pictures of the staff were hung, along with two of their favorite songs. I love this idea! I wonder if we could do it at my school. I’m going to suggest it!

I’m glad you enjoyed the day. I love conferences, too. It’s great to see people and to see the big picture of Lutheran education.

Good ideas are worth stealing! It sounds like a bucket-filling day. I hope you can do some resting and recovering this weekend.

I go to the conferences primarily to talk with people, not to hear the presenter. If the presenter is good, that’s a bonus.

There is an “LCMS Coordinator of Online Support and Services?” That alone is hugely encouraging to me.
Also, I am envious of your slice of pumpkin pie.
Have a great weekend and I hope you feel better!

I’m a little jealous! I wish there were conferences on Maui I could attend. It sounds like a wonderful day for you.

P.S. There was a shark attack at Hookipa Beach yesterday…where Russell surfs most every morning before work. Thankfully, he decided to skip yesterday!!
