I have had an odd popping in my knee for the last two weeks. Every time I bend my right knee, something slides past something else and makes a weird “pop” feeling. It doesn’t hurt – it just feels weird. It’s not a bone thing – it’s flesh. I can actually feel it. It’s on the outside of my knee right here:
As I get older, I don’t worry about pain. I worry about permanent damage and something becoming non-functional. This seemed exactly like one of those times. If my knee kept popping, would it eventually tear something and my leg wouldn’t work any more?
I decided I would go to the doctor. I skipped my primary care physician, and went right to an orthopedic doctor. They did xrays, then the doctor came in. He said I had a beautiful knee – it was picture perfect, and it had no arthritis. Yay!
He felt my knee popping, and said it was a plica (which I have since looked up on the internet). He said if it didn’t hurt, then there was no need to do anything. I can just let it pop away. In the meantime, I have a cool/weird/gross thing I can have other people feel when I bend my knee.
Also, I got to wear paper shorts.
In all of my medical stuff, I have never seen paper shorts. That is a great idea.
Paper shorts! Now you have an art project for class if you need to make sub plans.
I just looked at computer-generated pictures of a plica, and while I don’t quite understand it, I do feel a little woozy looking at the computer-generated surgery.
Paper shorts to wear with your “old” dress shoes in the yard!! LOL! What a sight!!
