Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Pilea Peperomioides Bloom

I was very excited to get a Pilea perperomioides plant this past summer. It has been growing very well. I wanted to give a cutting to Debbie and Mark when I visited them, so I divided the original plant a couple of times. There were lots of offshoots, so it was easy. I ended up giving them a tiny cutting, because it was easier to transport in my airplane carryon. I have the remaining divisions at school and in my kitchen.

One of the plants in my kitchen is blooming. I don’t know if it was triggered by the dividing, or the short daylight days of winter, or the cool windowsill of the kitchen, or some other thing.

The bloom spikes have been very slow-growing. I can’t tell if the flowers are open, or if they are still getting bigger. There are surprisingly few pictures of Pilea perperomioides flowers on the internet.

For the memory archive, and for the good of the internet, here are pictures of my Pilea perperomioides blooms:

The plant is getting lopsided, but I'm afraid to turn it around in case that causes a problem for the flowers.

I did smell them. I did not detect a scent.

That plant looks so much healthier than when you first bought it. Those leaves look unreal to me – like the flowers you can make with wire and fingernail polish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFRzZIFbYFI Congrats on the blooms!

You Have Definitely Been Blessed With “A Green Thumb”!!! I have ONE plant….it is a “baby” of the Philodendren (SP?) that Grandma Royuk had in her dining room that trailed completely around the ceiling!!! It is doing very well and has quite a “trail” already for me!! (just encircling the planter a couple times right now!) 🙂

I’d love to get a cutting of that some time. It’s an heirloom plant!

My Grandma did that same thing with a Philodendron too. All the way around the room. I thought it was amazing.
