Faded Glory

I rarely get poinsettias at Christmas time – mostly because I don’t know where to put them so I will be able to enjoy them enough, but also because I am uncomfortable saying their name out loud. Is it “poin-set-ah” or “poin-set-ee-ah”? I always say the first one, but look how it’s spelled!

Anyway, after Christmas one of the poinsettias at church wasn’t claimed, and someone brought it to my room, so I put it on my desk. The rich red color has been beautiful to look at each day. Leaves have been dropping like crazy, which I just attributed to the dry air in my room. But lately, I’ve had some weird wilting going on: whole crowns have been wilting at once. All the beautiful bracts fall off, and I’m left with a few spindly green leaves. I think this plant’s days are numbered.

And then there was one.

And then there was one.

Awww….. poor little plant. I almost feel sorry for it. It has met the fate of every plant ever given to me.

For what it’s worth, I say the first version, too. (Also, love the desk picture!)

Aren’t you supposed to put it in a dark closet now?

I think that dark/light treatment starts closer to next year, to get the plant to bloom again. It doesn’t look like it’s going to survive that long.
