My trip to the airport and getting on the plane went off without a hitch. The gate agent was really kind to me and seated me in a premium seat because I had asked for a seat assignment close the front.
The flight itself was very uneventful. I watched “Logan”, because I hadn’t seen it yet. It was ok. When looking at the literature in the seat pouch though, I saw something that was not ok. And as it turns out, I think this is a peeve of mine – the confusion of the words “peak” and “peek”. “Peak” means “high point”. “Peek” means “a quick or secret look”. This is a national airline, and they got it wrong. Yikes!
Maybe they mean the highest titles?
When I landed, I was greeted by several people. It was awesome. They gave me leis and warm smiles. Diane drove me to the car rental place so I could get my transportation for the week. On the way out of the airport, I saw a parking lot chicken. Woo hoo! Let the chicken sightings begin!
I think this was a rooster.
I had an apartment viewing scheduled, but it got rescheduled until today. I stopped by Subway for some lunch before heading to my hosts’ house.
I also got some coffee, because I was feeling jet-lagged.
I’m staying with the principal and his wife (who will be teaching fourth grade). They used to live in Arlington, Nebraska and they are good friends with my dad’s cousin and family. We had great conversation and wonderful dinner. They have made me feel so welcome. The condo they rent is beautiful. It has an amazing view. I tried to take a picture, but the sun blinded my camera. I think you can still see… it’s a fourth floor balcony that overlooks a fountain and the ocean. It’s unbelievable!
I didn’t open the screen door for the picture.
Today, I have two apartment viewings scheduled. I’m hoping one of them is suitable and able to be occupied immediately. I need to get my stuff from the shipping company. It already arrived last week!
I agree that those misspellings are unnerving. My cancer hospital had several misspellings in their orientation literature. That does not instill confidence.

…. Let’s not forget ‘pique’, which I don’t see used correctly. People write peek or peak for that.

True confessions: I have been known to do exactly that switch of peak for pique or peek. But, then, I wasn’t writing text for a publication that a bazillion eyes would be seeing either. (I share your pet peeve, Brad!)

And what a view indeed! I wonder if it’s hard to leave that balcony each morning to go to work.
(I notice the incorrect usage of words too. I think all the auto-correcting we have now has helped in making people….well, not on the bawl)
