Brad’s Day of Fun

My coworker Diane knew that I was experiencing cat withdrawal. She has cats, but she also knows someone who is a Maine Coon cat breeder that currently has kittens. She asked her friend if we could come for a visit. We went yesterday!

Once we got into the cat room, Diane and her friend had a nice visit, but I mostly just heard the noises Charlie Brown’s teacher makes, because I was so happy to be petting some cats. The cats liked it too.

Most of the kittens were kind of skittish, but I did get to pet a few of them. One wrestled with me for a while.

One of the cats was super-friendly because she was starting to go into heat. She rubbed herself on my foot while I pet the kitten.

'I love you!'

The breeder had a cat wheel! Ha! I had seen them in pictures before. It was even more glorious in real life!

They only ran on it for short stints.

After visiting the cats, Diane suggested we drive to see a couple of Upcountry sights. First we went to see Oprah’s house. She owns a ranch just past Kula. Diane often goes for walks on the road there, so she knew the area well. You can’t really see Oprah’s house because of trees, but we did get a glimpse. In the picture below, it’s a white speck. I pointed to it with an arrow.

The surrounding country was beautiful.

Next, we stopped at Kula Hardware. Diane was checking out bird feeders. I wandered the garden center.

Beautiful!

Beautiful!

Their landscaping selections were great! I told Diane that if I were shopping for plants for landscaping a yard, I would totally shop here. The variety of citrus trees alone was so varied. Ti plants are a staple of Hawaiian gardens. There was a great variety there, but I was most excited to see one with almost black leaves. I really wanted to buy one, but it seemed to impulsive, so I didn’t get it.

Diane took me back to my car, and we went our separate ways – she to her house, and me… back to the garden center, where I bought the black-leaved ti plant! Ha! I texted her to tell her I went back for it. We had a good laugh. Thanks for the awesome day, Diane!

I will keep it in a pot on my lanai for now. Ti plants seem to do well in pots.

What a fantastic day! That cat wheel is hilarious! (How hard would that be to make….?) The plant (tie? tee?) will be a lovely memory of Labor Day weekend 2017. Diane, you are a great friend!
