Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

New Numbers

Happy Birthday to my niece Anna! And happy belated birthday to my niece Rachel! I used to remember to send cards. I haven’t done that in a long time 🙁

*******

I went to the doctor for a physical on Friday. It’s been years since I did that. It felt good to get back on schedule with check-ups. I told the doctor I was trying to stay out of the sun to keep from getting cancer, and he did a body check of my moles. He took a couple of pictures. I’m supposed to come back in six months for a comparison.

I also had some blood tests done. I was mostly curious about my cholesterol levels. They have been creeping higher as I get older. From the memory archive on May 25, 2012:

According to my last entry about it in Bradaptation two years ago, my total cholesterol was 199 and the LDL was 144. This most recent test says 231/164. The doctor suggested some supplement things I could try. Flax seemed to help when I first started it. Maybe I’ll give some of these other things a try.

My numbers this time? Total cholesterol: 184. LDL: 105. The numbers are lower! I’m so surprised! I haven’t been eating flax for several years now. I stopped for some reason, and didn’t get back to it. I also haven’t been super-conscious about my diet. I mean, a lot of high-cholesterol foods are also acid triggers for my stomach, so I stay away from them. Other than that, I just sort of eat what I crave.

I guess whatever I’m doing is ok. Or maybe somebody is sneaking cholesterol medicine into my water…

Is that 7.1 number good or bad? I'm a little unclear on that...

Congratulations! Yay!! Whatever mystery thing you’re doing – keep doing it!

Yeah, that ‘Risk of Heart Disease’ line – is that a percentage? Percentile? Just 5 guys and 4.4 girls? These things should be labeled more clearly.

Good job, Brad! Keep up the good eating. Perhaps those fresh fruits and vegetables on the island will lower the number even more.

It’s the sunshine and happiness that you have now!! Eat on!
