Cat Scratch

Last night as I was lying in bed, Gus was making a lot of noise. He was also scratching a lot. After a while, I wondered what was going on, so I turned on the light and looked.

Gus had several areas on him that had broken out in red spots. I assume they were also itchy, considering how much Gus was squirming and scratching.

If I was in Baltimore, I would have taken him to my vet there, because it’s a 24 hour emergency hospital. Since I was on my own, I wondered if hydrocortisone might help. The Internet said you could put it on cats, but they might lick it off and get sick. I decided to risk it.

It seemed to calm the itching, and Gus isn’t sick, so all’s we’ll that ends well. But I’m curious about what made him break out. I haven’t introduced any new chemicals or soaps to the house. Did I bring something in on my clothing? Was it bugs biting him? Did he eat a bug that caused that allergic reaction?

Dang. Poor Gus. I’m glad you had something to help him. I wonder what it could be?
