Revisiting the Vet

Gus’ itchy bumps came back. I had finished the steroids I was giving him, and only a couple of days later he had red spots again. I wish I knew what was causing it.

I took Gus to the vet again. The doctor said there were a few options to find out what is causing the allergic reaction. A skin biopsy would probably produce inconclusive results. An appointment with an animal dermatologist on Oahu would be expensive. He said the best next step would probably be giving Gus some special food that is less allergenic.

I’ll give him some steroids again to get the bumps under control, and switch him over to the new food in the meantime. His first introduction to the new food was not very enthusiastic. Even I think it smells kind of funny.

The dark stuff is the new food.

Rats!!!! Rats rats rats. I hope the food is the culprit, and that the smell gets better. 🙁

    P.S. I see your toes. 😉

Is Gus’ food a different brand than you were using in the continental US?

It is the same brand, but since breakfast cereal gets reformulated all the time, I wondered out loud if maybe his cat food was. The doctor thought it would be worth trying the low-allergen food.

The low allergen food IS a different brand. I would have liked to use the same brand as his regular food, but the vet was out of it, and there won’t be any more until the next container ship comes.

Why do companies mess with a good thing? Coke. Pepsi. Breakfast cereal. Gus’ food.
