Early Birthday

I had my weekly Bible study at Kaala and Andrea’s house last night. Before we got started, everyone surprised me with leis because my birthday is tomorrow. (The plural of “lei” is actually “lei”, but for the sake of clear communication I have included the “s”)

The meal was roast beef and mashed potatoes. It was SO good! I was reminded about Samith telling me that his dad advised him to eat Indian food because his ancestry was Indian and years of their ancestors eating that food had accustomed their bodies to it. From my reaction to last night’s meal, I now firmly believe that roast beef and mashed potatoes is the food of my ancestors. Mmm…

I wore the lei(s) all evening. I got a candy one (which I will eat), a crownflower one (which was Queen Liliuokalani’s favorite flower), and a tuberose one (which smells amazing). I love them all! I put them in the refrigerator. I think I will wear them today again.

What a fun combination!

What a fun combination!

Tonight and tomorrow night I will be staying at an outdoor camp halfway to Hana. The fifth graders are having their annual outdoor ed experience, and Peter can’t go because he’s having some surgery tomorrow for possible skin cancer. Keep Peter in your prayers. And our camping excursion.

If I don’t post, it’s because I don’t have a signal. I hope I have a signal. That would be weird.

If you don’t have a signal tomorrow, Happy Birthday! That candy lei is the best thing ever! No, wait – camping is the best thing ever! What kinds of things do you need for camping in Hawaii? A big knife and a match?

    Praying for Peter, too.

Happy Birthday! The tuberose scent is indeed glorious! My parents grew them at home, and they were the best!
