Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Day of Reckoning

I finally finished my taxes yesterday. I had them mostly done about a week ago, but then I added the money I converted from a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. Ouch! It really hurt me.

I don’t regret it though, because it will pay off when I retire. Pay taxes on a smaller amount now; pay no taxes when I withdraw later.

Still, it’s always hard when I have to write a check to the government. Stupid taxes.

I could not e-file my Hawaii taxes. The envelope was bulging with forms!

Hooray!! It’s over and I am proud of you. I look forward to mooching off your retirement savings someday. 😉

It turns out we couldn’t e-file either because last year’s taxes were still in process. I had to find where I put the stamps.

Nebraska only wants a 2 sided piece of paper and some W2 forms.

We figured out that between property tax on our home each year and what we normally owe the state and Uncle, every penny I have contracted with my current school for the two day/week gig goes right to the Gubmint. I thought you would appreciate this tidbit, as I know you are a wholehearted supporter of our taxation system.

Just kidding – but I knew you’d share in our ire, at least.

The Roth is such a goood deal that I can’t believe it exists.

OK that sounded a lot stronger in my head.

I know, right? This really was a painful tax year for me, but I’ll be so glad later!
