A Lot of Lot Chickens

Happy Birthday to Denis! Yay! He doesn’t comment a lot, but he lurks here often.

I haven’t posted about chickens in a while. Yesterday I saw a lot of them. I stopped at a grocery store to get some food for Bible study, and the parking lot had LOTS of chickens. Somebody had just put some food out for them, so they were out in numbers.

I had to walk past them to get to my truck, and they barely moved. These are a tame group of chickens!

Of course when I tried to take a picture, I only got four in the shot.

I tried to take a picture of my foot and a chicken, so I could show how close I was. I was only marginally successful:

Happy Birthday, Denis! May it be a wonderful Wednesday!

One of my students is a chicken nut. His family is raising chickens and he brought in a chicken catalog. One of the professors at Concordia is also raising chickens and she brought in a black silkie. Their feathers don’t have the spiny part in the middle so they feel kind of furry AND their bones are black. What is up with that??

Sooooo….. do people ever just catch those chickens and….um…. have them over for dinner? It seems like if you weren’t squeamish you wouldn’t go hungry on Maui.

Hi Lauren! Yes, people do catch the chickens. I have a chicken trap behind the school. I just relocate them to a better spot. Unfortunately, some people trap them for cock fighting…ugh. It is illegal, but many people do it. Yes, some people have them for dinner. Mostly, people just ignore them.
