Pointed Words

I am leading chapel this morning. This is my fifth time this year. I still really enjoy giving chapel messages. Since I’m new to this school, I’ve been able to re-use my most successful message ideas.

Today I will be using my movie prop replica of the sword “Glamdring the Foe Hammer” for my message. I’ll be talking about how the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. We use it to defend ourselves from attacks (like Jesus when he was tempted), and to go on the attack ourselves (but only attacking sin, not people, because “our struggle is not against flesh and blood”). And we only have the strength to wield it because God gives us that strength (“For the Spirit God gives us does not make us timid, but gives us power”).

The end of the year can make the kids antsy, but I think a sword will hold their attention just fine.

Oh, yes, I think their attention will be held quite well, sir. ‘The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God’ – that is a powerful mental image! I am so glad you get to give your cool messages! Huh, your one little paragraph has given some very good food for thought……

I’m smiling, recalling you being a tad concerned about having a weapon in your classroom so you could use it for a chapel message. I’m sure this one went just as well.

Still miss you leading worship for young adolescents here. (Chapel services at my current school are what one would get if assemblies married brief speakers sprinkled with occasional songs lacking any motions – the biggest disappointment for me personally.) Can picture everyone with their arms up swaying left to right during “from everlasting…..to everlasting”, for example. SO glad you get to lead where God has planted you now. Blessings!!
