Lei Making

Happy Mother’s Day! Yay!

In Art period on Friday, I had the seventh graders make yarn lei by finger-knitting them. Since I was helping kids get the knitting right, I didn’t have time to do it myself. I took some yarn home to give it a try.

Yesterday while I watched some tv, I got in touch with my inner grandma and I finger-knitted.

Its a simple process.

The result really looks pretty good. It could be fun to make lei for any visitors that come. Or to show them how to make their own!

If you use multiple strands of yarn, you get a thicker result.

HERE is the video we watched to learn how to do it.

Love these as well – your artistic gene is flourishing of late, isn’t it? How did the students enjoy making them?

That is different from how I finger-knit. I do individual loops for every finger each time, but that one big loop around all the fingers would make it go so much faster! Thanks for the tip!

    Happy Mother’s Day, Elaine! 🙂
