Memorial Day Transcript

For Memorial Day, I’m going to post a group text conversation I had with my family. It all started with this picture from Brent:

BETH: Was he about 50 when he died?
BRAD: That’s cool. I always wanted to see that.

BRENT: Max was born ~ 1881
MOM: Stopping in Fremont. On my way to Dads grave. I have some roses! So just looking at all the texts. I have seen this tomb stone. So glad you have a picture. I believe Ned was younger.
MOM: Max born 1880 came to US in 1907. Married Jan 11, 1914. According to Bev’s book. Now looking for Neds dates
MOM: Max became a citizen in 1913
MOM: Ned came to Ellis Island in Nov 1908 and he was 18
MOM: So I guess born in 1890
BETH: So he was 10 years younger than Max and died when he was 32! Wow! (And they didn’t come to the US together!?)
MOM: Right
BETH: Also, it’s 100* in Seward right now and only 68* in Maui.(mind blown emoji)
MOM: Whoo hoo!
MOM: Grandpa Royuk’s wife died in 1926 their daughter OLga died in 1925
BETH: So Grandpa John was 8 going on 9. He was the youngest of the three boys right? And born in 1917.
MOM: Yes
BRAD: I just got done with church stuff and I’m seeing all this. 32? Sheesh! What did Ned die from? I was talking with someone in Bible class and said I thought it was something that killed lots of people in the early 1900’s, like influenza or cholera or something.
BETH: I wondered the same thing. What kills you at 32?
MOM: We believe he died of tuberculosis, we believe that is the hospital, veterans, that he was in up there

That is a fascinating conversation, and how good that you have the history of your family! I am thankful that the Royuks came to America or I wouldn’t be able to read your website. 😉

I am thankful for everyone who served our country!
