Salt Trial

Happy Birthday, Lauren! Woo hoo!

Sunday after church, I work at school. After I’m done at school, I stop at the grocery store on my way home. Yay, groceries!

Yesterday I bought an artichoke. I like to boil them, then pull the leaves off, dip them in melted butter, and scrape them off with my teeth.

I like the butter to be salty, but when I add salt to it, it sinks to the bottom. I don’t taste it until I cut up the heart and soak the pieces in the butter. Then it’s too salty. (I know, calling butter too salty seems weird to me too).

Last night I tried a different tactic. I added a lot of salt to the boiling water. That would make the actual artichoke salty, and the butter could just be butter, right?

It didn’t work. Back to making salty butter again I guess. Or maybe I could try adding MORE salt to the boiling water. I wonder how much it would take. If artichokes weren’t so dang expensive, I might run a series of experiments. This artichoke cost me $5.

How about a pile of salt on your plate? Dip in butter, dip in salt, scrape? I think much more experimentation is in order.

Thank you for the birthday greeting! 🙂
