A Return to the Gallery

We went on a field trip to an art gallery on Monday. It’s only a short walking distance away, so it was really convenient. It was also really interesting. Originally, I was trying to get us to see an origami exhibit. But by the time our schedule allowed us to go, it was replaced by a surfing exhibit.

The kids liked it.

The kids liked it.

My coworker Josh suggested we have the kids write afterward. His idea was that we write thank-you notes to Shannon, who gave us the tour. We had them include details about one of the pieces they liked.

The notes were really good, so I delivered them yesterday. Shannon was happy to receive the notes. We chatted for a while. I also met Neida, who was the director of the gallery. She said Paul (who I know from my time here in 2013) used to come often. It was fun to make a connection. We’ll be back again for sure.

Before I left, Shannon gave me some origami paper cut from magazines, and some instructions for making various origami projects. They were left over from the previous exhibit. Awesome! We will definitely use these in Art Class.

Well, that was the best outcome ever! What a fortunate follow-up visit!

Art galleries are such inspirational places. I should visit them, too. Maybe that’s a goal for 2019?
