Day by Day Delays

I haven’t made much progress with my bathroom because I’m trying to do a backsplash for the sink. I want it to match the other bathroom. I have been fortunate to find the same tiles and grout. I’m glad the previous owners used Home Depot. It’s easy to find everything.

Here’s the already-been-done sink:

What’s not been easy is cutting the tiles. The mosaic is made of glass. I found some nippers that do the job. They are specifically made for glass tiles. It did set me back an extra day though, because I had to hunt for the right tool.

The border pieces are another matter. They are made of travertine. It’s not a super hard material, but since they aren’t tiles, I can’t just score and break them. Plus, I have to do joint cuts at 45 degrees. Yikes! Another day gone, because I don’t have a chop saw.

After consulting with Russell, he suggested I borrow his Dremel and give it a try. Yay! Then I bought a blade for the wrong kind of Dremel. Boo! Another day lost.

Yesterday I finally had the materials I needed. The Dremel worked! I sent Russell this picture:

And now I have all the pieces of the backsplash:

But I couldn’t yet put them in. I put some caulk around the edge of the sink, and it needs to dry for 24 hours. I did get the tape in place to keep the tile adhesive in bounds.

Holy. Catfish. I don’t think I could be more impressed! This is like real-deal work, not just slapping stuff together. I love that style of sink! Sorry about the setbacks and delays, but it doesn’t seem to be impeding your forward motion!

Wow at your determination! Good for you to figure things out and adapt your tools! It’s gonna be great!
