Tension and Turtles

On Wednesdays, I watch CNN10 with my class. It does a good job of presenting current events. We watch it, then discuss it.

Yesterday the whole episode was about the 9-11 attacks. They showed news footage while they talked about the event. I was surprised by my reaction. As the episode went on, the space between my shoulder blades got tighter and tighter. By the end, it hurt like crazy. Weird. Or maybe not. It was an upsetting topic.

Wednesdays are also early dismissal days, and faculty meeting days. For our faculty meeting, we went on a “field trip”. We went to the Maui Ocean Center to look at the facilities and to have them talk with us about what bringing students there would be like. It was awesome.

As I spent time there walking around and looking at the fish peacefully swimming around, I felt my back relax. By the time I left, my back didn’t hurt at all.

I haven’t watched any footage of this since 2001. I just can’t. I’m glad that you did it with the students, though. They need to know why we say ‘9-11’ and what that means. Thanks for being a wise teacher.

… and a ‘thank you’ to the turtles and sea creatures for lowing your stress level!

How cool that you have news time with your class. Yes, what a heavy subject. Was meant to be that you got to chill out with the sea creatures. That turtle doesn’t look real? How awesome! Your life is so cool!
