Shopping Local

I had a sleep-in morning yesterday. It was delightful! After a slow and easy wake-up, I decided I’d go to Kahului for breakfast at IHOP. Mmm…

After breakfast, I drove around a little and window-shopped. My last stop was at the mall. The library has a used bookstore there, and I spent a while looking around. It was not just window shopping.

I was excited to find a fantasy series that I have always wanted to read, but never got around to. The whole set was $5. Amazing!

They also had DVDs for $1 and CDs for 50ยข. I have a CD player in my classroom, so I got a few things I’ll enjoy playing in the mornings before school. I also go a DVD for my classroom set of kid-friendly movies.

Looks like I’ll have to start reading more seriously.

Perfect! You got to shop AND you got some tax deductions, yes?

Wonderful series of books! I think you will enjoy them immensely, though they are a bit dark. There’s sort of a pall that overhangs the story, an aura barely felt but always present that colors the entire experience far beyond the descriptions and the action. Not that I understood this when I read them so long ago, but that’s the feeling I associate with them now.

Truthfully, it is 13- or 14-year-old me that so highly recommends them… 50-year-old me is painfully aware that reading books today that he adored as a youngster can be… disappointing. Still, they made such a huge impression on me that I had to make a comment about them. I do hope you enjoy the experience, that it is truly sublime!

Hi Stephen! Thanks for the comments. I have wanted to read these books for a long time, and hearing that 13 or 14 year-old you liked them is good. My students are that age, so I’m always looking for good books for them.

I’m reading your other comments too ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t read. I mean….i just can’t make myself sit still that long and concentrate without thinking of what else i could be or should be doing? I’ve never been a reader so i admire people who want too and love to read books. Yay you book worm brad.
