March Forth

I did the chapel message yesterday. Since I’ve been in Maui, I’ve re-used a lot of chapel ideas from my past. But yesterday, I did a new chapel message. It was so fun developing the idea and sketching it out. It was an old familiar feeling.

Yesterday was March fourth. My message was about how we March Forth into the world. I had the kids practice doing marching orders, like “right face” and “about face” and “forward march”. It was fun.

Then I talked about some Bible verses that went with those orders… being made RIGHT with God because of Jesus… doing an “about face” when we want to do something selfish or unloving… following the “command” of Jesus when he said love each other as he has loved us.

We also sang lots of march-sounding songs. The most fun one was “Battle Hymn of the Republic” I had forgotten it was Lent, so we couldn’t sing the “H-word”. When we got to the “Glory, glory, Hallelujah!” part, I had them hum instead: “Glory, glory, hm-hm hmm hmm” Ha! It was so fun!

After chapel, the kids all write on index cards to say what they remembered the Big Idea to be. I always get some really funny answers, but this time I got what is clearly my best all-time answer ever:

HAHAHA! I laughed out loud. It’s from a second grader. She actually put a lot of really good stuff on the card. But that last sentence…. priceless!

It’s all about the shirt, man. How hilarious!!

That sounds like a great chapel, and what a good idea to have the children write down what they remember – that really sticks it in their minds!

I talked a tiny bit about March Forth with my class, but they are too young and the wordplay goes right over their little heads. I envy you. 🙂

You are so clever! What a fantastic fourth message! And the writing card, another great idea. Writing is remembering for sure. We wanna see your shirt! That’s so cute.
