Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Sad, Sad, Funny

I have been sitting around a lot, but I did finish a book. I read “Flowers for Algernon”. I had read some recommendation for it a while back, and it really stuck with me. I finally read it.

I liked it. It was published in 1959, so it certainly has dated language and cultural stuff, but that also makes it interesting. I got it off the bookshelf in my classroom, but I don’t think I’ll be returning it there. It has quite a few references to sex in it. It was sad, and I would never read it again, but for that reason, I pronounce it a well-written book, because it moved me toward emotion, even though I don’t like the emotion.

In other sad news, I have to cut my visit to LA short because of travel restrictions to Maui. I leave today.

Delta #2117. Depart LA 12:00pm. Arrive Kahului 3:11pm

Because there are so many sad things in this post, here is something happy. A picture of me and Beth on a two-seated bike. She texted it to me yesterday along with a bunch of other fun pictures from our past.

The bike AND the station wagon AND Little Brad and Little Beth? That picture’s a keeper for all the right reasons. 🙂

I am sorry about your visit being cut short. That absolutely sucks. I don’t know what else to say about it.

My brother was in the play “Flowers for Algernon” and I was very young when I watched it….. fifth grade? sixth grade? Anyway, I just remember that it was very sad, and it involved….. a mouse? I don’t know if I’ll ever read it just for the sadness.

Have a good flight, and let us know when you get back. Praying for safe travels!

I wouldn’t know anything about a sad book? See why i don’t read, i save myself! I do admire book readers….i just can’t be still long enough. Gosh i can’t believe you’re flying again! I thought there was lock down there….i hope you get home healthy and can be settled safely. A two seated bike with you young guys on it!! What a treasure pic! How fun! Safe travels! Don’t touch anything or look at anybody!

Glad you headed home before you had no choice in the matter. I have a former student who went to Guatemala to be with his spouse on a concert tour (long story) – and they’re both stuck there until further notice, Fortunately, he says, the area is lovely and they are far from miserable.

Claire Bloom, Cliff Robertson…great sad movie, too, Brad. Never watch it, okay?

Who has that two-seater now, I wonder?
