A Surprising Find

I worked at school yesterday. In the afternoon, when I had run out of steam, I headed home. I stopped at Walmart on the way home. As is my habit, I went to the garden center there, and as is my habit, I checked out the clearance plants. They’re usually sad-looking, but not beyond help.

There was a taro plant there, which isn’t unusual. Hawaiians have been eating taro for hundreds of years. But then I saw the variety – “black coral”.

What?!? I couldn’t believe it!

I saw this variety in Plant Delights, one of my favorite mail-order catalogs, and liked it so much, I was almost going to order it in spite of the expensive shipping cost I would have had to pay to get it here. HERE is the listing. Here is their picture of it:

Isn’t it amazing? I love how dark and shiny the leaves are. Outstanding!

Here is my plant:

It doesn’t really look like the pictures from Plant Delights, but it has had a hard life. I will take good care of this plant, and soon it will be its true self. I’m so excited!

Yay! What a great find! It doesn’t look too bad. Bigger pot, some good soil, a little time, and it will be beautiful.

If anyone can save that little plant, you can.

Have a great first day of school!
