Happy Halloween!
Yesterday would have been our big Pumpkin Fest carnival fundraiser at school, but it was canceled. We still had the day off though.
In the morning, I met my coworker Maile for a hike to the Wailuku Cross. I’ve heard about the hike, but didn’t know much about it. It’s steep, but not too long, so it’s nice.
After hiking for a while, we saw what the trail is named for:
I thought it was going to be some professional work of art or finely-crafted installation, but it was very simply constructed.
The trail continues just to the left of the cross, and we went up a little more, but then turned around. Some day I’ll have to see where that trail goes.
In the afternoon, I met Steven and Chloe for pumpkin carving and dinner and Young Frankenstein. It was delightful. Chloe knew immediately that she would carve a cat pumpkin. I suffered from indecision and carved a traditional pumpkin face.
That sounds like an absolutely delightful day! Both of your pumpkins are perfect.
That cross is fascinating. Is that plywood? Also, I am continually astounded at the variety of landscapes on Maui. How is it that you have a northwestern forest in the middle of an island?
Can’t do much better for Hallowe’en laughs than Frau Blucher and her friends, IMHO. Those are, BTW, superbly carved squash you have there. Have a fun but safe evening!!
