Going for a Drive

Charles Lindbergh is buried on Maui, and it’s been on my list for a while to visit his grave. It’s past Hana, so it’s quite a drive. Yesterday I finally did it.

The drive to Hana was different than previous trips because I used an app that did a running commentary while I drove. It was also different because the streams and waterfalls were very swollen with water.

My phone didn’t have a signal, so I overshot the church where Lindbergh is buried. I had to turn around and backtrack a little. But I did find it! It’s a beautiful little church with a small graveyard.

There was a small park next door, and a tree was dropping big red leaves. It looked like fall!

Since I was so far past Hana, I decided to just keep going and drive around the east side of Maui. The road is narrow and bumpy and right next to a drop-off to the ocean, but it was beautiful.

As I got farther south, I kept seeing clumps of grass that looked pink. It was so cool! I stopped to take some pictures, but none of the pictures looked very pink. Dang.

By the time I got to Kula, it was nearly sunset. I decided to park and watch the show. It was beautiful!

I was so tired when I got home. I ate and went to bed early. Tuesday mornings are exercise mornings, so I couldn’t sleep in.

Oh, the trinkets on the gravestone – so touching. How wonderful that he is still honored like that. 🙂

Your drive is spectacular! (Even that one-lane road right by the terrifying ocean.) I’m curious about the swollen streams – is the island recovering from the flooding?

Mike, Sandra Royuk and I did that round the island trip. It was an adventure!!
