Fluoride and Figs

When I run out of toothpaste, I have to go to Whole Foods to get a new tube. I guess should just order a bunch from Amazon and be done with it, but it is interesting to see what I can see.

This time, they had figs. Figs! I’ve been looking for them so I could take them to class and share them with my students. The Bible talks about figs a lot, and the kids have usually never tasted them.

But they won’t taste these figs. They weren’t sweet at all. They had a little bit of a fresh flavor, but only a little bit. Mostly they were flavorless. And not sweet. Dang.

I have never tasted figs, either. I’m sorry these were not tasty. Picked and shipped too soon? A bad variety? They couldn’t have been cheap, either, since you were shopping at Whole Paycheck.

Good figs are sweet. They aren’t super juicy, but their texture is pleasant and fresh. They are soft, like…. ripe strawberries? Their flavor reminds me of honey. Mmm… so sweet….

Saw those in Israel. Never in US. Growing up, my mom bought the dried ones and we ate those. Not to sure I loved them.

Have you ever eaten Fig Newtons? Those are yummy.

Yes! Fig newtons are some of my favorite cookies. If I ever buy cookies, they will be Chips Ahoy, Nutter Butters, Nilla Wafers, or Fig Newtons
