I was brushing my teeth yesterday morning, and noticed something distressing:

My toothpaste doesn’t have fluoride in it! What’s the point of that? Toothpaste is just basically a fluoride delivery system. Fluoride is what re-mineralizes your tooth enamel. Without fluoride, toothpaste is just mouth soap.
I got this particular kind of toothpaste for its flavor. It’s sweetened with sorbitol, one of the few artificial sweeteners I like.
I searched for something new last night, but couldn’t find a replacement. Here’s my list of requirements, for those who wish to play along at home.
Must have fluoride
No sodium saccharine
Sweetened with a sugar alcohol, such as xylitol or sorbitol
No other artificial sweeteners, such as sucralose or aspartame
No other natural sweeteners, such as stevia or monkfruit
This has to be shared somehow as the funniest line in the dental world: “Without fluoride, toothpaste is just mouth soap.” I mean, c’mon – that should be a poster! 😀
I just checked and the public water in Torrance has fluoride in it already.
