Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Library Looking

Yesterday we went to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. It was a longer drive than we first anticipated, but it gave us a chance to see other parts of LA.

The museum started out with a hologram-looking thing where Ronald Reagan welcomed us.

Then the museum took us through the life and times of Ronald Reagan. It was fun for me, because he is the first president I have any substantial memories of. A lot of the things reminded me of my childhood.

There were also many fun displays, like a scale model of the Oval Office…

…complete with jelly beans:

There were also fun picture opportunities, like this inauguration scene.

One of the most impressive displays was a whole airplane. It’s Air Force One!

This is the actual airplane used by actual presidents from 1973 to 2001. You can walk through it. They make you pose for a picture before you go in. We didn’t buy the print, but here’s the proof:

The inside was cool. Here’s the desk the presidents sat at. Look at my hand on the door frame! I bet all the presidents who flew in this plane touched that same door frame! Awesome!

There was a special display at the library. It was the Dead Sea Scrolls. So cool! Here’s one that lists the Ten Commandments:

Outside, there was a piece of the Berlin Wall:

Ronald and Nancy are buried out there as well.

What a fun visit!

WOW! WOW! And WOW!! That is an awesome museum! I hope I get to go there one day! How do you suppose a part of the dead sea scrolls got to go in his museum. Just the picture fascinates me so!

(I remember exactly where I was when Regan was shot. I was at work on the phone with a customer and she said, Oh my…..the President’s been shot! And hung up. I thought maybe she was crazy. But I told my manager and we put the radio on and sure enough…..)

That is amazing!!! How big was the scale model, President Royuk?

Holy cow – I just can’t get over what a cool day!

To answer the questions – Peggy, the Dead Sea Scrolls are a temporary exhibit. There is a part of the Library that hosts changing exhibits, and right now it’s the Dead Sea Scrolls. Lauren, I wrote it weird. The Oval Office is a one-to-one model. In other words, it’s a life-size recreation of the Oval Office.

Excellent! Thank you! (Though I’m a little disappointed you didn’t get to feel like a giant.)
